15 mins on front, 5 mins survival, 10 mins on back. Survival skills practised without goggles. Run similarly to Turtle, allowing for a younger age group.
Penguin builds directly on Jellyfish — longer breath holds, a full survival sequence with an actual fall-in, and the first real stroke foundations on both front and back.
What your child learns in Penguin
1. Safe Entry
The same safe, supervised pool entry from Jellyfish, now expected as a consistent habit.
2. 10 Second Bubbles
Doubling the breath-hold time from Jellyfish — a clear, visible sign of growing water confidence.
3. Push & Glide (with and without board)
The same glide, now practised without a board as well — the first step toward the body floating and moving through water unaided.
4. Streamline Kicking
Kicking in a tight, efficient body line — an early preview of the streamlined position that becomes the standard from Sea Otter onward.
5. Survival Sequence
A full practised sequence: glide into a starfish float for 5 seconds, reach and pull to the wall, then one real jump into the water and the same sequence back. This is Penguin's core safety skill.
6. Push & Glide on Back
Gliding on the back, extending the balance and trust built in Jellyfish.
7. Kicking on Back (with and without board)
Backstroke kicking, now practised both with and without support — building independence.
8. Submerge for Ring on Ground
Diving down to retrieve a ring from the pool floor — a step up from the step-level version in Jellyfish, and a real confidence marker for going fully underwater.
9. Safe Exit
Learning to exit the pool safely and independently, completing the entry-to-exit safety routine.
What's next: From here, children move into the school-age pathway starting with Platypus, where freestyle arms are introduced properly for the first time.
