Turtle is about turning individual skills into a swum stroke — breathing to the side while actually moving, and the first taste of competitive-style turns.
What your child learns in Turtle
1. Safe Entry
A safe, controlled pool entry.
2. Streamline Kicking
Reinforcing the tight, efficient body line from Sea Otter, now expected as the default kicking position.
3. Freestyle (Straight Arm, No Breathing)
Freestyle technique refined further, still without breathing, so the stroke mechanics are solid before breathing is layered on top.
4. Introduction to Freestyle Breathing — 3 Arm Breathing
Breathing on alternating sides every third arm stroke, with and without aid. Bilateral breathing keeps a swimmer balanced in the water and is a key building block for longer-distance swimming later.
5. Streamline Back Kicking
Backstroke kicking in a tight streamline, extending the Sea Otter skill.
6. Streamline Dolphin Kicking
An undulating whole-body kick that's the foundation of butterfly — introduced early because it takes time to feel natural.
7. Introduction to Tumble Turns
A first attempt at a forward somersault turn at the wall — a squad and lap-swimming skill that's exciting for kids to start learning.
8. Safe Exit
Exiting the pool safely and independently.
What's next: Octopus follows, where backstroke and butterfly are formally introduced and tumble turns are practised on both freestyle and backstroke.
