Quick Answer

Toddler swimming lessons at Neptune Swim School run every day of the week for children aged 12 months to 3 years. Classes are 30 minutes, cost $25 per lesson, and a parent joins their toddler in our 32° indoor pool at Eastern Creek, Western Sydney. Toddlers progress through two levels — Kelp (1–2 years) and Starfish (2–3 years) — before graduating to independent Learn to Swim classes.

Our Toddler Swimming Programs

Toddlers aren't just small babies or small school kids — they learn differently. Our two toddler levels are built around how 1–3 year olds actually develop: through repetition, song, play and the security of a parent's arms.

KELP · 12–24 MONTHS

Kelp — Young Toddlers

For toddlers finding their feet (and their kick). Parent in the water.

  • Confident entries, submersions and back floating
  • Kicking and paddling with support
  • Safety skills: turning back to the wall, holding on
  • Songs and repetition that build anticipation skills
STARFISH · 2–3 YEARS

Starfish — Older Toddlers

The bridge to independent swimming. Parent in the water.

  • Independent movement through the water with aids
  • Breath control and comfortable submersions
  • Reaching, grabbing and climbing out safely
  • Following instructions — ready for Learn to Swim at 3

The cue words your toddler will know by heart

READYGO

Every submersion and entry is paired with the same simple cues, so your toddler learns to hold their breath and anticipate the water — a genuine safety skill, not just a party trick.

Why Toddler Swimming Lessons Matter

🛟

Water Safety First

Toddlers are the highest drowning-risk age group in Australia. Early skills genuinely reduce risk.

🧠

Development Boost

Swimming builds gross motor skills, coordination and body awareness at a critical age.

🤝

Confidence & Bonding

30 uninterrupted minutes with your toddler, building trust in and around water.

📅

Routine That Sticks

Weekly lessons, year-round in our heated indoor pool — no winter break, no lost progress.

What to Bring to Your Toddler's First Lesson

  • Swim nappy (required for all toddlers under 3) plus swimmers
  • A towel and warm clothes for afterwards — our pool deck is warm, but Western Sydney winters aren't
  • A change table is available in our family change rooms
  • Goggles are optional at this age — we teach comfortable eyes-in-water first
  • A snack for the drive home. Swimming makes toddlers spectacularly hungry

Toddler Swimming Lessons — FAQs

What age can toddlers start swimming lessons?
Any age from 12 months. Kelp covers 12–24 months, Starfish covers 2–3 years. Children who started as babies progress through automatically — but it's never too late to begin, and toddlers starting fresh catch up quickly.
Do I need to get in the water with my toddler?
Yes — and it's the best part. In both toddler levels a parent or caregiver is in the water. Your toddler learns through you, and you learn the same holds and safety cues our instructors use, so practice can continue at the local pool or on holidays.
How much do toddler lessons cost?
$25 per 30-minute lesson, billed monthly (around $100 per month). No term fees or enrolment windows — start any week of the year.
Is the pool warm enough in winter?
Our indoor pool is heated to 32 degrees all year. Winter is actually the most important time to keep lessons going — skills fade fast at this age, and consistent weekly lessons are what build water-safe kids by summer.
What happens when my toddler turns 3?
They graduate into independent Learn to Swim classes with an instructor — no parent in the water. The move is based on readiness, and because it happens at the same pool with familiar instructors, most kids barely notice the transition.
